Discover the History of the Millenary Olive Tree Lucio…

Located in the western part of Granada, this olive oil factory specializes in the grinding of olives, focusing on the Lucio variety, a millenary olive tree native to Granada.

Our surroundings tell the story of the borderlands of the last Muslim kingdom in Europe, where battles forged populations and their natural heritage. Protected by the region’s castles, the olive trees that were once shielded by these fortresses still stand.

Granada is home to the last bastion of millenary olive trees, direct descendants of the first trees that arrived in Hispania in the 7th century. Farmers from Íllora and Alomartes continue to preserve thousands of trees, with an average age of 650 years and trunks over three meters in diameter.

During the visit, you’ll learn about the harvesting process of the Lucio olive, cold milling, and the creation of a unique extra virgin olive oil found nowhere else in the world. We’ll explain how tradition and innovation combine to produce the highest quality oil, respecting the artisanal methods passed down through generations.

We’ll also take a stroll along ancient olive paths, uncovering the trees’ history and their crucial role in the region’s economy and culture. You’ll learn how to distinguish the characteristics of Lucio olive oil through a guided tasting, where you’ll appreciate its smooth and balanced flavor, with fruity notes and distinctive aromas.

The experience concludes with a visit to the factory, where you’ll see firsthand the production and bottling process of the oil.

Come and experience it for yourself!

  1. Gabriele
