This activity, recently declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You are going to witness one of the oldest and most environmentally respectful professions: transhumant shepherding.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, April 26, join this special trekking day alongside a transhumant herd, starting in \u00d3rgiva, in the heart of La Alpujarra of Granada. We\u2019ll begin our journey with shepherd Gabriel, his son Jorge, and their more than one thousand sheep. Together, we\u2019ll walk along ancient drover\u2019s roads\u2014ancestral paths that for centuries have linked valleys to highlands, guiding livestock toward the summer pastures.<\/p>\n

Along the way, you’ll learn about the shepherd’s life, the current challenges facing traditional pastoralism, and the crucial ecological role that transhumance plays in preserving landscapes and biodiversity. You\u2019ll witness how the flock moves in harmony with the land, and how dogs and shepherds work as one\u2014keeping alive a timeless knowledge passed down through generations.<\/p>\n
