Discover the Fallow Deer’s Bellow in the heart of Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park
Join us from September 19th to October 12th and experience the fallow deer’s bellow, guided by forest engineers and passionate nature lovers. This is one of our most exciting seasonal activities.
We’ll share fascinating insights about this ungulate, which lives on a sustainable estate within the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park. At night, during a guided walk, you’ll feel the thrill of hearing the males’ deep roars echoing through the forest. Known as “la ronca” or the rutting season, this spectacle is equivalent to the red deer’s “berrea.” During this time, males emit a low, guttural sound to court females, accompanied by runs, leaps, and clashes to establish dominance. As a polygamous species, the more frequent and powerful the bellow, the greater the male’s reproductive success. These calls are heard most intensely from dusk until dawn—an unforgettable way to feel the heartbeat of nature.
For the most adventurous, with a prior reservation, you can spend the night in hanging hammocks, immersed in the sounds of nature at its peak. At sunrise, we’ll share all these experiences over a hearty mountain breakfast.
