The Organic Lojeña Sheep Farm is located at the foot of the Sierra de Loja (Granada), the mountain range that gives them their name. Nestled between Granada and Málaga, these sheep are raised in an extensive grazing system, roaming freely in the fields and managed organically. Their welfare is always prioritized, contributing to the conservation of the natural ecosystem. This native breed is known for its resilience and adaptability to mountainous terrain and plays a vital role in the region’s livestock tradition.

You’ll get to share an authentic day with Juan Antonio, an experienced shepherd with deep knowledge of his trade. As you explore the landscape, he will share anecdotes about his daily life in the mountains and explain the unique aspects of extensive sheep farming. You’ll learn about the natural therapies used to maintain their health, their seasonal diet, and the traditional methods of shearing and fleece care. You’ll also have the chance to see the flock up close and, with luck, even meet a newborn lamb.

This experience also features artisan Sihan Huertas, who, using a traditional wooden spinning wheel, will demonstrate the process of carding and spinning organic wool. You’ll discover how raw fleece is transformed into yarn through age-old techniques. You’ll also get to feel the wool ogf the organic Lojeña sheep at different stages of preparation and learn about its significance in sustainable textile production.

If you visit the farm in spring, you may witness the traditional scissor shearing, a meticulous manual process still practiced in many farms to ensure the sheep’s well-being.

To round out the experience, you have the option to enjoy a lamb skewer tasting, prepared with meat from the farm itself—a true delicacy that highlights the authentic and natural flavors of the product.
